On 10/30/2024, BBB issued a warning about consumers' claims that a Pub Crawl Company does not provide advertised services.
With Halloween happening soon, and costume wearers who are interested in celebrating may be interested in spooky-themed pub crawls. Around festive times like Halloween, problematic event marketers often pop up, hoping that consumers will sign up for their alleged bar hops and other events. Consumers have recently complained about one such alleged company, which is currently selling tickets to Halloween pub crawls in the Metro New York area, as well as across the country.
The Better Business Bureau Serving Metro New York is alerting consumers about PubCrawls.com. This New York-based event service promises that customers who pay for its Halloween pub crawl will get a wristband allowing special access to a list of participating bars, discounted food and drinks, contests and prizes, and waived cover charges, among other benefits. However, complainants are telling BBB® a very different story.
Complaints to BBB alleged that many of the bar locations listed as participating in recent PubCrawls events were not aware that they were included in the event. A number of complainants claimed that promised amenities were not provided and consumers were left with a PubCrawls wristband that had no redemption value. Consumers who purchased PubCrawls.com tickets said that they were not able to obtain refunds requested, due to the lack of promised perks. The PubCrawls.com ticket offering for Halloween events in New York City and White Plains, New York currently contains a disclaimer in very small type font, stating that there are no refunds for ticket purchases and that "Advertised drink specials, participating venues, and advertised times are subject to change and may vary."
At the time of this alert, PubCrawls has an F rating with BBB: 27 consumer complaints have been filed against it in the last 12 months and 42 complaints have been filed in the last three years, 20 of which have not received a response. BBB Metro New York attempted to reach PubCrawls at the address listed on their website, but mail sent to that address was returned as undeliverable by USPS.
In general, be cautious when considering a purchase of tickets to events that pop up around special holidays and other festive times. Be sure to research events that advertise a long list of benefits offered for a low cost, especially ones that appear on your social media feeds. Always check with BBB.org before you buy to find businesses that you can trust.
